In The Beginning

 

Way back in 1893, the first 18-hole golf course in the United States was constructed in Downers Grove, Illinois. And soon thereafter, the first golf carts began to appear on the market to facilitate travel across the large courses. But it wasn’t until the middle of the 20th century that designs improved, thanks to the minds behind Club Car.

 

Founder Bill Stevens purchased the Landreath Machine company and turned it into Club Car. Stevens developed the first cart with a steering wheel in 1960, and his company, based in Augusta, Georgia, took off a few years later. Golfing celebrities were huge fans of Club Car’s vehicles.

 

Their popularity only soared after Bill and his son decided to travel to the 1962 PGA show in Dunedin, Florida, using one of their company’s golf carts. Soon, improvements followed that made Club Car golf carts even better and more convenient, like roofs, extra seating and storage compartments.

 

Utility Terrain Vehicles

 

In the 1980s, Club Car decided to expand their operations and go into the manufacture of utility vehicles, designed to traverse more rugged terrain and complete more difficult tasks. Initially, their first utility vehicles were simply modified golf carts that had cargo boxes welded onto them.

 

In 1985, Club Car released the Carryall II vehicle, which were an excellent business solution for companies’ transportation needs. In the 1990s, further designs rolled off assembly lines, and by 2004, they were ready to release their first all-wheel-drive utility vehicle, the Carryall 295.

 

The first zero-emissions Carryall showed up in 2010, and In 2014, Club Car re-released the Carryall with a higher hauling capacity and improved fuel efficiency. These vehicles demonstrated the company’s commitment to eco-friendliness.
