What is a Utility Task Vehicle?

A utility task vehicle is a type of powersports vehicle that is about a third of the size of your average passenger vehicle. Like a typical car, a utility vehicle is operated using a steering wheel and gas/brake pedals, but it has no protective outer shell and has more rugged tires with higher ground clearance to help it climb over obstacles and difficult terrain. Most UTVs are designed to seat two to four passengers, but some can fit as many as six. This makes them ideal for transporting worker crews.

While a UTV is equipped with seatbelts to keep you and your passengers secure, there are some safety precautions that you’ll need to undertake to ensure that no injuries occur. Wearing a helmet is of utmost importance because your UTV doesn’t have a roof or sides to keep you protected and you can easily bump your head in a collision. 

 

Sturdy work boots with good traction, riding gloves with good grip, long sleeves and pants are also recommended to protect your skin from abrasions and scrapes. Always operate your UTV while sober and alert, making sure to scan your surroundings for people, animals, other vehicles and obstacles that you’ll want to avoid.
